Description

Set of Six ‘Flex’ Dining Chairs by Gert de Lange for Thonet, 1969

A rare and highly desirable set of six original ‘Flex’ dining chairs designed by Gert de Lange for Thonet in 1969.

An icon of late Modernist European design, the Flex chair was awarded the prestigious Gute Form prize in 1969, recognising its innovative design, functionality, and aesthetic excellence. Combining sculptural simplicity with exceptional comfort, the chair exemplifies the progressive design language that defined the era.

Each chair features a beautifully shaped solid beechwood frame paired with an original black synthetic seat and backrest. The elegant, flowing lines and lightweight appearance belie their robust construction, making them equally suited to dining, conference, hospitality, or residential interiors.

The chairs retain the manufacturer’s marks and remain in lovely original condition, displaying a warm patina acquired over decades of use. Comfortable, practical, and visually striking, they are an excellent example of award-winning European design from one of the most respected furniture manufacturers of the twentieth century.

A sophisticated and increasingly collectable set that would complement both contemporary and vintage interiors.
